It is imperative that leaders, on every level, help their communities thrive and grow. A part of that responsibility comes with leading by example in the way that the individual leader lives his or her life. Leaders who fight for things they, themselves, aren’t willing to live up to are hardly leaders. This is especially the case when drugs and alcohol are involved. Project Lead is a coalition of leaders on every level, from Federal, State and local government, to community and school leaders, as well as parents, who pledge to lead by example and actively assist in the battle against drug and alcohol abuse.
All those who endorse this pledge have pledged to do the following:
- I pledge that I will remain drug-free. I will not consume, deal, or acquire any illegal substances, nor will I assist any person in the consumption, deal or acquisition of any illegal substances.
- I will use legal drugs only in the proper dosages and when necessary and prescribed by a physician.
- I will not consume alcohol unless it is legal for me to do so.
- When I consume alcohol, I will do it in a safe, responsible manner.
- When I consume more than two alcoholic drinks, I will not get behind the wheel of a car, and will secure for myself a designated driver, or another arrangement, be it alternate transport or otherwise, which will prevent me from having to drive.
- As a leader in my community, I will actively assist in the creation of drug education programs, the perpetuation and advancement of those that already exist, and the creation and perpetuation of alternative programs to deter people from partaking in drug use.
- I will actively engage in community conversations about what can be done to stem drug problems that exist, and create the continuous growth of a drug-free community.
